As you enter the hall of the main house, A lobby leads to a downstairs WC and then the kitchen.  The kitchen and dining areas occupy most of the ground floor with one double bedroom with its ensuite bathroom on the right as you walk towards the courtyard.

The first floor is reached via the oak staircase and covers the whole of the first floor. The top floor has three double bedrooms each with ensuite walk-in showers or a bathroom.

Across the courtyard, reached at first and second floor levels by the passerelles, is the tower house. On the ground floor is the laundry room and on the upper two floors is the family suite. On the lower level is a bedroom for three adults with a bathroom and above on the mezzanine is a double bed.

Ground floor​ bedroom

The ground floor bedroom faces the courtyard and has a king-size double bed.

Being just off the kitchen and dining rooms it is convenient for those who don’t wish to climb stairs too often, It has, of course, its own bathroom with WC, marble washstand and a corner bath with seat and grab handle.

The bedroom and bathroom have their own underfloor heating.

The Kitchen

Dominated by a twelve-metre-long beam in the ceiling holding the salon floor, the dining area has a 12-seat table, with an old Victorian church pew on one side and chairs on the other.

The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped with a range cooker, large fridge with integral freezer, bean-to-cup coffee machine, filter coffee machine, Magimix food processor and dishwasher and many utensils.

Laundry facilities are on the ground floor of the tower house.

Condiments are left for guests to use, pepper, salt, herbs, spices and oils and vinegars but please replace any used for the next guests.

There is cutlery and crockery for 14 available.  The area is heated by underfloor heating in the winter and in the summer kept cool by very thick walls. Stairs lead up to the salon with an 18th Century family portrait.

The Grand Salon

The Grand Salon is nearly ninety square metres and has quiet corners with an antique oak desk for work, large games table for board games or computer work, two three seater sofas and a large selection  of comfortable antique chairs.

The grand fireplace is emblazoned with our family crest which is also embroidered on one of the chairs.  Under the fireplace is a green enamelled wood burning stove and wood is provided during the winter. There are also electric radiators.

The windows look out one side onto Rue Gambetta and on the other side overlooking the courtyard.

The Jean Moiras room

Jean Moiras is a French modernist painter from the School of Paris. His work is classic mid-20th Century modernism – the period after ‘High Modernism’ – when the representational subject matter came to be mixed with abstraction in a single work of art. His work has been chosen because he is a native of the region, being based in the Auvergne.

The complexity of the roof structure can again be seen in this room.

There is a 180cm x 210cm double bed with a chair and chest of drawers.  The bathroom has a bath with shower hose and a basin and WC.  The air-conditioning is reversible in winter.

The Nancy Wake room

Nancy Wake, a New Zealander by birth is acknowledged to be the most decorated woman of the Second World War; her heroic exploits leading the French Resistance in 1944 were recognised with medals from France, Britain, America and Australia.

The room contains photographs of her and a rare first-day postal cover explaining her exploits.

The roof beams are exposed and shaped like an upturned boat.

There are two single beds 90 x 210cm with chairs and a chest of drawers. The walk-in shower room has a basin and WC. The air-conditioning is reversible in winter.

The Henry Harpignies room

Harpignie was a leader in the Brabazon school of landscape painters in the late 19th century and spent several years living in Herisson. This room is decorated with examples of his work.

The exposed roof beams are a work of art in themselves.

There is a 180cm x 210cm double bed with a sofa and chest of drawers. The walk-in shower room has a basin and WC.  The air-conditioning is reversible in winter. There is a cot available for use in this room.

The Asterix room

The Asterix room is in the tower house, on the lower floor. There is a full adult-sized bunk bed and pull-out drawer bed.

The room is decorated with cinema posters advertising Asterix films.

A bathroom leads off this room.

Mezzanine

Mezzanine

Reached from the Asterix room by a small, rather steep, staircase is the mezzanine floor with a queen-sized double bed.

This room, nearest the castle, overlooks the pool and courtyard through its dormer window.

There is no air-conditioning but it is heated in winter by radiators. Together with the Asterix room, this family suite is ideal for a group who wish to be separate from the rest of their party.
